The PSL-NEURO research program explores the fundamentals of the nervous system, and translates advances into practical applications for society.
 

Exploring the spatial and temporal scales of the brain

Studying brain mechanisms across all biological dimensions, from molecules to neural networks, including synapses, cells and microcircuits. We will also focus on essential temporal dynamics, such as nerve signal transmission, synaptic plasticity, and memory encoding and consolidation processes. The challenge is to understand how these different scales interact to enable learning and adaptation, two key functions of the nervous system.

Developing algorithmic modelling of brain mechanisms

Translating the biological principles of the brain into precise algorithmic models that will describe the rules of synaptic learning, the architectural principles of neural networks, and the regulatory mechanisms that govern the nervous system. By formalising these processes, this research area paves the way for more accurate simulations of brain function and inspires significant advances in artificial intelligence.

Creating synergies between teams and strengthening international visibility

The program will bring together the expertise of research teams scattered throughout PSL University, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and pooling resources. The aim is to accelerate discoveries, train a new generation of researchers and position PSL as a key player in the field of neuroscience on a global scale.

Applying discoveries to the fields of health and artificial intelligence

Transferring knowledge acquired about the brain to concrete applications. In health, this will lead to a better understanding of neurological disorders and the development of innovative treatments. In artificial intelligence, brain mechanisms will serve as the basis for designing more powerful and adaptive systems capable of surpassing the current limitations of existing technologies.
