PSL-NEURO - Support for scientific events

The PSL-NEURO Major Research Programme has set up a support system for scientific events to encourage the organisation of conferences, workshops, mini-symposia, thematic schools and seminar series. The aim is to strengthen the PSL-NEURO community by promoting concrete scientific exchanges between teams, sites, approaches and levels of analysis, while developing formats that directly benefit the training of students and young researchers.

This support is primarily aimed at initiatives that create interactions between several teams involved in the Programme and that include an explicit educational dimension (e.g. methods workshops, tutorials, practical sessions, mentoring, or modules dedicated to Master's students, doctoral students and postdocs). The Programme will also seek to support unifying events that contribute to the structuring and visibility of the PSL-NEURO community, in open and accessible formats.

Given the resources available, the PSL-NEURO Programme plans to support around twenty events over the period in question, with funding typically limited to €3,000 per event, adjusted according to the overall budget, co-funding and expected impact. Seminars or events organised directly by PSL-NEURO (labelled events, mid-term) fall under a separate framework and will be treated specifically.

Applications are evaluated on an ongoing basis by the Programme Board, within the limits of the available budget. In order to allow for administrative processing that is compatible with the event schedule, it is strongly recommended that applications be submitted at least 6 to 8 weeks before the scheduled date, where possible.

The application file shall not exceed two pages, and allow for a clear assessment of the relevance of the request. It shall be submitted as a single PDF file and include:

  • general information about the event (title, format, dates (even provisional), location, organisers and affiliations, PSL-NEURO teams involved),
  • a concise description of the scientific and, where applicable, educational objectives, accompanied by a provisional programme (even partial),
  • a paragraph explaining the added value for PSL-NEURO, in particular how the event will promote exchanges between teams and the training of students/young researchers, and
  • a provisional budget indicating the amount requested from the Grand Programme, confirmed or expected co-funding, and the main items of expenditure.

Eligible expenses mainly concern costs directly related to the scientific organisation of the event (travel and accommodation for speakers, room logistics, educational materials, communication, and, where applicable, technical costs related to training sessions). Expenses must comply with the rules of the supervisory authorities and the applicable administrative procedures.

Project leaders will be informed of the Executive Board's decision after review, and supported events may be promoted on PSL-NEURO communication media (website, announcements, community programme), according to the terms specified at the time of approval.
