PSL-NEURO - PhD extension

Each year, the PSL-NEURO programme awards a total of 60 months of PhD extension funding.
This extension covers 3 to 12 months, to allow the students to finalise their project, and make the most of their scientific results.
Extension funding stops at the end of the month in which the thesis is defended.

Conditions

A maximum of one application per research team and per year, to ensure equitable distribution of resources.
The team must have applied for a 4th-year funding from the FRM or another funding body.

Application

The application shall be concise (as for the FRM) and shall permet an easy assessment of relevance and necessity of the extension:

  • CV (2 pages max),
  • reports from the last CSI,
  • an application form detailing the identity of the doctoral student and their thesis supervisor, the host laboratory, the duration of the funding requested, a summary of the thesis project and the progress made (3 pages max),
  • the specific objectives for the extension period and the scientific output envisaged (1 page max)
  • letter from the thesis supervisor co-signed by the team leader (if not the thesis supervisor) in order to avoid any confusion about team support, justifying the request and indicating any 4th year requests made to other organisations.

Applications must be sent in PDF format to:
pslneuro@psl.eu
with the subject line ‘PSL-NEURO 4th year funding candidate XX’.

Selection

A scientific committee, composed of eight to ten members from the PSL-NEURO programme laboratories, will review the applications.
The criteria taken into account are:

  • the progress and scientific quality of the project,
  • the relevance and feasibility of the objectives for the extension period,
  • the expected impact on scientific output and the doctoral student's career,
  • the justification for the need for funding.

Timeline

Application deadline: 1st of April of the year
The results will be announced after FRM publication of its 4th year fundings, and other equivalent funding.
